Trina Solar's latest cell technology
The demand for solar energy remains high. Meanwhile, our suppliers are not idle either. They are constantly optimising their production and supply chain to develop new cell and module technologies. When it comes to selecting solar panels, Trina Solar believes your customers are looking for three things: maximum power, trouble-free performance and appearance on the roof. This is where the new Vertex S+ with the latest n-type i-TOPCon cell technology steps in. In this article, we tell you more about what makes these panels and the latest cell technology so special.
Meet the Trina Solar Vertex S+
"N-type i-TOPCon (Tunnel Oxidized Passivated Contacts) modules lead the way to higher efficiency with better performance and less degradation."
-Klaus Hofmeister, Product Marketing Manager, Trina Solar.
Compared to similar p-type panels, the Vertex S+ n-type series provides 10% extra energy throughout 30 years because it features dual glass. The panels also have a high module efficiency of 22.5% (instead of 21.3%). Moreover, the NEG9RC.27 version has a transparent backsheet that makes these panels seem to disappear on the roof. Another advantage of these panels: they only weigh 21 kg!
N-type vs. p-type solar panels
Trina Solar's n-type solar panels not only have a higher module efficiency , but they also have a longer product warranty. Whereas p-type panels offer a 15-year product warranty, this is 25 years for n-type panels. These differences are caused by two distinctive features of n-type panels.
Higher output
Thanks to higher electron mobility in n-type panels, even in shady or cloudy conditions, power generation is better than in p-type panels. This is due to the updated i-TOPCon technology. These panels have extra layers between the solar cell and the metal contact. As a result, less energy is wasted and your customers benefit from a higher output per panel.
Less degradation
N-type solar panels are less sensitive to LID (Light Induced Degradation) than p-type panels. According to Trina Solar, n-type panels have a 50% lower first-year degradation than p-type panels (1% vs 2%). Moreover, from the second year onwards, n-type panels have lower annual power degradation than p-type panels (0.4% vs 0.45%).
How do we move forward?
Trina Solar foresees a future in innovating n-type i-TOPCon technology. More so, in the future they aim for 27 to 30% efficiency due to innovations in this cell technology. With these long-term innovations, your customers will eventually get more value for their money.
